Why accessibility matters and why we’re investing in it
Accessibility isn’t just a compliance checkbox — it’s a moral and practical imperative. People engage with technology in different ways. Some may face barriers due to:
- Visual, motor, or cognitive impairments
- Lower literacy levels
- Mobile-only access with limited typing ease
- Or simply a preference for speaking over typing
For researchers, ignoring accessibility can mean missing valuable insights from entire demographics. For respondents, it can mean frustration, drop-off, or exclusion. That’s why we’ve embedded accessibility as a core principle in our product development. And this release reflects that philosophy. Our latest updates focus on improving both input accessibility and visual usability, ensuring a smoother, more inclusive experience for all respondents.
Feature Highlights
- Speech-to-Text Support
Respondents can now tap the microphone icon on any open-ended text field and speak their answers. Real-time transcription enters their spoken words directly into the response box.
- Language-Aware Recognition
Speech recognition automatically adapts to the survey’s selected language. If a language is unsupported, the microphone icon will not appear.
- Keyboard Compatibility
Respondents can freely switch between voice and typed input, or edit the transcribed text as needed.
- Character Limit Enforcement
Transcription automatically stops when the field’s character limit is reached, ensuring clean, concise input.
- Visual Accessibility: Themes & Font Controls
Respondents now have more control over how surveys appear visually — making them easier to read, interpret, and navigate.
- New Enhancements Include:
- Font Size Slider: Respondents can adjust font size to their personal comfort.
- Theme Selector: A menu of accessibility-friendly visual themes designed to address different needs.
Available themes:
- Default Theme: High contrast black text on white background for optimal neutrality.
- High Contrast Theme: Maximizes text/background separation, ideal for low vision users.
- Grayscale Theme: Removes color dependence — helpful for color blindness and cognitive focus.
- Blue/Yellow Theme: Specifically designed for red-green color blindness (the most common type).
- Dark Mode: Eases eye strain in low-light environments.
These visual settings can be adjusted directly by the respondent during the survey experience — making accessibility feel natural, not optional.
Template-Level Control for Creators
Survey creators can now enable accessibility settings per project via the Template tab, giving teams greater control and consistency across studies.
No setup needed
This feature is already live and automatically enabled for all active and future surveys. No changes to your survey structure or layout are required. It’s fully integrated — just one more way we’re making research more human-friendly.
Aligned with accessibility standards
This feature aligns with global accessibility frameworks like:
- WCAG 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines)
- EN 301 549 and ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)
- Design-for-All and Universal Design principles
We are committed to iteratively upgrading our platform to ensure everyone can participate fully in research — regardless of device, ability, or preference.
What’s next?
Accessibility continues to be a cornerstone of our roadmap. Upcoming improvements will include:
